The Chinese Hukou System
Migrant workers working in industrialised cities need to have the chinese hukou system amended city by city so that if they have found steady jobs beyond a certain income, they should be able to bring their parents to live with them, however this is not suitable for Hong Kong which is already too overcrowded. Land in outlying sub-urban areas then can be sold for redevelopment. Different income levels can be implemented in different cities to control the number of eligible people to prevent overcrowding eg Beijing and Shanghai can have different quotas. Minimum criteria could be set at a 1 year contract for entitlement.
Why this should be implemented? The centre of influence is the family and it is not good for the economy if children has to be separated from their parents, and mothers and fathers separated from the grandma and grandpa. It would also give the cities a boost by increasing demand for all kinds of services, creating business opportunities everywhere.
Not everybody is suitable because the cost of living will increase between different cities and not everyone can afford living in the cities, demand and supply will find it’s equlibrium.
